District 1
District 1 is the northeast quarter of Trinity County. What is included within the boundary is a bit surprising. The line runs just south of State Route (SR) 299 from Buckhorn Summit to about the midpoint of Vitzhum Grade, then turns north. Homes along this portion of SR 299 are in District 1 as well as all of Poker Bar and Lewiston. As the District 1 line runs north, it encompasses the Little Browns creek drainage and Little Browns Creek Road up to SR 3.
District 1 is to the north of SR 3 as moving west, including the neighborhoods along East Weaver Creek Road, Airport Road, and the east side of Five Cent Gulch. The County transfer station, jail and Weaverville Airport are in District 1! The District 1 boundary then runs north of SR 3 to Garden Gulch. From this point it runs south along Garden Gulch, then along Barbara Avenue and Garden Gulch Street to SR 299. The line then follows the north side of SR 299 to just past Oregon Mountain Summit. Trinity High School and the Caltrans Weaverville Maintenance Station are in District 1!
From SR 299 at Oregon Mountain Summit the District 1 line runs almost due north, ending at the county line near Mirror Lake and Thompson Peak. A large portion of the Trinity Alps Wilderness and all of Trinity Lake and the associated recreational attractions are in District 1. All of the communities located along SR 3 north of Weaverville are in District 1, including Covington Mill, Trinity Center, Carville and Coffee Creek. Numerous other pockets of rural residential development lie along both sides of SR 3, often identified by local landmark.
District 1 is diverse!
I have lived in Lewiston for 25 years and over 30 in Trinity County and I won’t pretend I know, or much less have been to, every corner of District 1. What I will say is that my wife and I are here for the long haul – we hope our health gives us at least another 25 years in Lewiston. No matter where you are in District 1, know that I have the same desire for you and your family to be able stay and succeed here.
